Is There Mail on Labor Day? Post Office, UPS, FedEx Open Hours

Labor Day is a public holiday, but not everyone is sure if the mail will be delivered.
The operating hours for many mail carriers can vary on this day, while there are regular business hours for many restaurants and stores, depending on where you live.
Labor Day is observed as a federal holiday on the first Monday of September. It recognizes the American labor movement and its successes in expanding and protecting workers’ rights.
Many people also celebrate the day as a farewell to summer, but you should keep in mind that many businesses and organizations close their doors for the holiday.
If you’re expecting to get mail this Monday, be forewarned that many mail carriers are closed for service.
As a government agency, the U.S. Post Office will close offices on Labor Day, and no regular mail or packages will be delivered throughout the day.
Some services, like ordering stamps or printing shipping labels, should still be available online, however.
In all, the U.S. Postal Service observes 11 official holidays, including Labor Day. Regular service will resume on Tuesday.
Generally, all federal, state and local government offices are closed on Monday because of the federal holiday. Government employees will get a full day off and be back at work on Tuesday.
Some people might also be uncertain about FedEx’s operating status on Labor Day.
Like the U.S. Post Office, the company will not provide services on Labor Day, with no mail delivered other than its “Custom Critical” deliveries. That means FedEx Express, FedEx Ground and FedEx Home Delivery will all be closed for business.
FedEx offices may be working on modified schedules, however. It’s best to call first to check.
United Postal Service stores are also scheduled to be closed during the federal holiday.
Domestic mail delivery will also not occur on Monday, but UPS Express Critical is available for mail under certain circumstances.
In addition to mail carriers, banks close their doors for the federal holiday. This includes top banks like JPMorgan Chase, PNC, Truist and Capital One. However, ATMs should still be available for your cash needs.
Operating hours at many retail store chains will vary by brand and location, so you should double-check by calling the store before going there.
Walmart is set to be open from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m., and Target stores will be open for business from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.
